Lucky's opened in June of 2019 in the Inland Empire and the idea was simple: Having good coffee closer to home.
Tyler Smith, Owner and Founder of Lucky's, worked for the (SCA) Specialty Coffee Association and with coffee manufacturers like Wilbur Curtis. He helped start the SCA's Roaster's Guild and Technician's Guild, as well as owning his own cold brew business before opening up a cafe. As an Upland local, he would travel the world for coffee but come back home and it wasn't quite the same. That's when the first brick and mortar for Lucky's opened in Upland, CA. Although it no longer resides in Upland, Lucky's now calls home in Claremont, CA just the next city over, where you can see our roasting process.
The name and inspiration for Lucky's comes from Tyler's Irish heritage and from growing up adopted. Also, being born on St. Patrick's Day adds on the luck. Being able to build roots in the Inland Empire and create something for hopefully generations to come is what come is what we believe makes Lucky's special.
Coffee is Community, Not Competition
At our core, we are people that love our community. Coffee is a space where people come together for different reasons. For us, that means that what we do is unique to us at Lucky's, and we do our best to support both our coffee community and local community without the competitive mindset. If we support one another, we can all be successful. Coffee is community, not competition.
