This is a guided coffee tasting class for curious coffee drinkers. No experience needed.
Join us for our Lucky’s Sensory Class, an approachable coffee tasting class designed to help you understand what you’re tasting in your cup. Whether you’re brand new to specialty coffee or you already know what you like but want better words for it, this class will help you build confidence in tasting coffee.
We’ll explore aroma, acidity, sweetness, body, and flavor through guided sensory exercises using fruits, chocolates, and coffees roasted by Lucky’s.
This is not a formal certification class.
This class will help you be more confident in what you're tasting and elevate your coffee journey or career.
We've taught this class at large scales, but this class will be a smaller, and more intimate class, right around 12 people to start.
About our Instructor:
Our instructor, Kat Padlan, is currently Director of Operations for Lucky's and a cafe consult for café owners, managers, and leaders in the specialty coffee world. Kat is also a currently licensed SCA Q Grader. Kat’s experience spans working with renowned roasters, green coffee importers, celebrities, big brands such as Califia Farms and BIGFACE, and small businesses; traveling across the United States to collaborate directly with different coffee brands and companies. She also has helped open several restaurants in the Inland Empire and worked with many small businesses in graphic design, marketing, and management.
Currently, she partners with farmers in Peru and Kenya to develop sustainable ways to support their communities. As one of the first team members of Lucky’s Coffee Roasters since 2019, Kat has been instrumental in shaping its success and loves to share her knowledge and love for coffee through education.
With her passion for coffee and wanting to fostering meaningful connections, Kat brings both expertise and heart to every project she takes on as she takes you through this class.

During this class, we’ll guide you through:
- How to taste coffee more intentionally
- The difference between aroma, flavor, acidity, sweetness, body, and finish
- A sensory tasting table with fruits, chocolates, and other flavor references
- A guided tasting of different coffees
- A simple tasting sheet to help you describe what you notice
- A fun blind tasting exercise to compare coffees side by side
You’ll leave with a better understanding of what kinds of coffees you naturally enjoy and how to describe them with more confidence.

No prior coffee knowledge is required.

Because this class includes prepared materials and limited seating, tickets are non-refundable. If you are unable to attend, you may transfer your ticket to another person.
Please arrive 5–10 minutes early so we can begin on time.
This class may include common allergens such as nuts, dairy, chocolate, citrus, and other food items. Please contact us before purchasing if you have a severe allergy.
Cancellation Policy
Tickets are non-refundable due to limited seating and prepared class materials. If you cannot attend, you may gift or transfer your ticket to someone else.
If Lucky’s needs to reschedule the class for any reason, guests will be offered a new class date or store credit.

Is this a certification class?
No. This is an educational tasting experience, not a formal certification course.
Will there be food?
This is not a full meal, but we will use fruits, chocolates, and other sensory references during the class.
Can I buy coffee after the class?
Yes, absolutely. Guests will receive a small bag of coffee to take home, but will be offered discounted coffee if they plan on purchasing larger beans.
